The Way In Which You Build Your List Is Vitally Important

By Jamie Holt | September 21, 2008 .

List building in the internet marketing niche is not something that you can do flippantly. You really do have to focus your attention when going this route, because before you even think of ways to make money from your list of subscribers, you need to realise that the way in which you build your list is also going to dictate how effective your e-mail marketing of the future is.

There is absolutely no use building a list if it isn’t going to be a responsive group of people who are interested in buying on your recommendation.

And the best way to do this is to create a list of subscribers who have bought from you previously, a list of 20,000 people who have opted in to your list for a free information product are not necessarily as good as a much smaller list of people who have bought from you previously.

Those people who have already made a purchase either from you or on your recommendation are much more likely to buy from you again because they have actively participated in making an investment previously.

Using a free resource is an easy way to get subscribers but it is probably not the best way to do things because many will simply give up their e-mail address in exchange for the freebie with no intention of ever hearing from you again, but buying customers have expressed a solid interest in what you have to offer and are prepared to lay down the cash to say so. I have always believed that a list of buying customers is much more beneficial to your business than a list of freebie seekers.

The way in which you build your list is just as important as how you plan to promote to that list in the future, create a list of buying customers and you are setting the foundations of a solid business for the future.

Now don’t get me wrong here, you can offer a freebie to people for subscription. I do it right here and on alot of my blogs in a variety of niches, but that’s because I follow up with a content packed newsletter that is helpful and informative. My list of buyers comes after this when I know they have made purchases either from me or on my recommendation.
