Product Selection Can Make Or Break Your Affiliate Business

By Jamie Holt | November 18, 2008 .

It is not un-common for new marketers to spend months and months on end before they start making sales, and what happens in a lot of cases is they randomly pick a product to promote and do everything in their power to try to market a product, when in reality the product is the wrong one for their target market.

This instantly puts them into an uphill struggle and not only do they have to overcome the usual trials and tribulations of marketing, but they are doing it against the grain of what they should actually be providing for their target market. My few tips for product selection:

1. Focus on your market Your target market has a want, a need or a desire that you will be filling with your product selection. I always recommend to people who ask me that they should start with finding a niche market first and then source a product for that market, once you know exactly what the target market is looking for you will find it much easier to make sales because you are providing them with what they are looking for

2. Do not select a product on things like price or affiliate reviews What you need to do when picking a product to promote is focus on what it does for the buyer, do not at any time make your selection based on things like other affiliate reviews, or merchant pushing, or clickbank gravity. your product needs to be in demand, the demand of those who you are selling to.

3. Choose wisely and do thorough research When promoting a product you are putting your name and brand in front of that product, your reputation means alot online, so if you go around recommending every new, hot product in the marketplace then you could soon find your credibility dwindling into nothing, choose wisely and be sure to do thorough research on the product, customer reviews and experiences always contribute to my product selection.

You could be making all the right moves in your market, but without the right products to compliment that then you will find it struglle to make any real progress.
