One major factor when building an SEO campaign around your website is without a shadow of a doubt, the quality and structure of your inbound links… meaning links to your site from others.
I repeatedly see people using signature links on forums, without using the all important anchor text..
What is anchor text?…
Well.. see the link below in blue?
Well the words Affiliate Xtreme in that link are the anchor text, and when it comes to SEO and ranking, the text used as the anchor text, weighs very heavily on how your site is viewed by the search engine spiders. This has to be the most important element of creating inbound links…
If you publish an article to a directory and fail to use anchor text, although you will still benefit from that link, you won’t benefit fully from what is possible if you had used the correct anchor text.
Using RELEVANT text is also important, a link to your acne site is no good if the keywords are lose weight, or bodybuilding… using anchor text such as get rid of acne, or any keyword you wish to associate with that site will get it much further.
There are other factors to take into consideration when thinking about backlinks to your website, like for example the use of the NOFOLLOW tag by website’s…. some higher ranking pages use this tag in their build so your links are rendered useless as backlinks, they will still link, but the link won’t be recognised by the search engine’s.
These are still viable links ot have, but your main link building strategy should focus on sites with the FOLLOW tag and those that are closely related to your niche or website topic. Check out my comments section below posts, I have the FOLLOW tag included to ensure that you will benefit from any links that you leave from here to your site.
Be sure to take into consideration that overloading this is a bad thing, your link building should be a natural progression, growing over time. Submitting articles at regular intervals to the high PR article directories is perfect for this, you should submit regularly but not in force, limit yourself to which domains you link to each few articles, or if you only have one domain then use squidoo lenses and free blogs to spread out the link coverage and build your hub domain’s inbound links gradually.
Sites that are good for inbound links are:
All of the above are great for increasing your backlinks, but also remember the niche forums you participate in, and message boards etc. Include a sig. file with relevant anchor text..or include your link in your profile.

That was a great post. How do you know if a site has the “follow tag” or not? And secondly, what sort of pace do you recommend with articles to your main domain? 1 a day? 5? 10? Maybe a sequence of ‘X’ amount of links to your main domain for ever 1 that you put to your other hub pages? Just curious as to how you do it. (Here I am not even linking to a site in this comment
My site goes up on Monday).
Hi Nate..
I usually aim at 5 or 10 a day when I am linkbuilding to my domains, 5 or 10 per domain and then spend the rest of the time building links to others, blogs, hubs etc..
Inbound links are hugely important in search engine ranking… to find out if a site has a follow tag included, you can look in the meta source code of a page, feel free to jump on my newsletter and then shoot me mail if you want to talk more, or I can post pics of how to look in the source code of a page..
And also shoot me your site details when it goes live and i will edit it into your comment dude
Peace Bro’
I just signed up for your newsletter, and yeah, a post on how to check the metatags would be awesome! This industry yearns for the down to earth, tell it like it is, no B.S., here to really help others type of blogger. Much appreciated.
