HTML, Text Or Multi-Part e-mail Messages For Your Broadcasts

By Jamie Holt | September 15, 2008 .

I have a little bit of a confession to make.. regarding e-mail marketing.

You see here’s the thing, I am a marketer and I am “building a list”.. and if I am honest I do it in just about every single niche I get into.. I currently owns lists in some of the most obscure niche’s I ever entered into but it’s cool and I like it.

But through my own ignorance I have omitted the use of TEXT e-mails from some of those niche’s.. why?

Because in my opinion they just didn’t need it, they seemed to be very savvy markets but also spam issues always seemed quite low with some if them so I just didn’t feel the need to include text based mail.

Well.. as a result of some AWeber alterations over the weekend… I was encouraged to do the following which I posted at the warrior forum for discussion:

Holy Shoolah.. AWeber I forgive you for the past few days issues

Ok.. so it probably wasn’t their fault….

And I probably should have been doing this sooner…

BUT

When I hit my AWeber account for a broadcast today… as a result of them changing the new message interface and broadcast interface…

I was suddenly compelled to include a text version of my usually HTML only broadcast.. I have NEVERincluded a text version (stupid I know)…

I don’t add anything fancy so it was only ever basic HTML…

My broadcast today has DOUBLED in open and clickthrough rate… flippin DOUBLED!!!!..

And I was completely happy with my previous results… this is a cool evenin for me and I don’t even think this is the best of it.. my open rate usually has a final result about midday the following day when I send a broadcast today..

Thank you AWeber for making me notice my own laziness!!!

Now… I’m not saying that it was just the text based e-mails that increased the open and conversion rates, but the fact that the deliverability was probably better and therefore the response was received better and encourage more action by those recipients who probably were missing my HTML only e-mails previous to this one.
I can comfortably say that I am a multi part message convert and intend to stay that way   ;-)
