Do You Need Niche Passion To Promote?..Or Will Facts Suffice?

By Jamie Holt | August 24, 2008 .

I get asked about this all the time, and it comes up on the marketing forums even more so..

The most common advice dished out is one that I am strongly against, and that is telling people to jump into a niche that they are interested in and are passionate about. This has to be the single worst piece of advice that is ever given to any n00b looking into marketing other people’s products. There is just no need to be passionate about a niche to make money form it, and in fact you can build your interest in your research stage which encourages you to research more.

Knowing about a niche doesn’t guarantee that you will make sales, and to be honest there are tons of niche’s out there that have absolutely no profit potential at all, so if your interest is in a niche with no profit potential then you could spend weeks, months and even years digging into that niche that you have an interest in, only to find that it has nothing to be made from it.

You see when looking for niche’s, you must always look at the potential for profitability, In the early stages of niche research.. it is cool to jot down as many niche’s as possible.. but as you progress along, your main filtering criteria should be potential for profit and what your return on investment could be.

Now I know you may not see my point so I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that you really need to learn to take fun from the digging, if you train your mind to dig into a niche and enjoy that process.. you will soon find that it is much more profitable AND enjoyable. We are all in this to make money, so to look at a niche because you have an interest in it is insane. If that is your only reason for looking into it, if you have an interest AND it has profit potential then you are in for a cool ride.

But don’t jump head first into a niche just because someone told you to go after something you have an interest in.. look for the profitability!!

Using facts in your marketing makes things so much easier, you can avoid all hyper emotional passionate dribble and focus on actual product benefits, facts and figures..
