Did You Oversleep Again?… Be Disciplined..Goals.

By Jamie Holt | May 18, 2008 .

I was just reading another blog over at Technorati and I felt the urge to blog on the very subject, I will link to the blog when I go through my favourite’s again, Oh..here it is..lol - OverSleeping At YoungGoGetter…..

But here’s the thing. As an affiliate, you must be prepared for a lack of sleep, it isn’t uncommon for me to go a full 30+ hours without sleep.. now I’m not saying you should do that, but a certain level of commitment is required, no pain = no gain. Although you may be reading this and thinking you’re only into affiliate marketing for the kicks and a part time bit of change, then ok…I’m happy for you. But my message here goes out to all those potential super-affiliate’s just waiting for the “secret” to appear in front of them and for the magic to happen..

The magic is happening within you, and you just have to release it. YOU are the key to your success. My guess is that if you have been around the affiliate world for a while now, then you have gathered enough information to really make a killing, maybe you have paralysis by analysis?.. I dunno, but what I know is that if you start today applying all the knowledge you have..there is a good chance that with some dedication and discipline on your part, you will make a success of this thing…

Let me give you an example… it’s 7:52am here.. I was writing my last article at around half 2am and I’m back to it now…sunday morning!!..lol

Now that’s not a complaint, nor it is an endorsement for what you should do, but it is what I do in order to guarantee my income for next month. My l’il baby girl also had me up for a feed so I just stayed awake and hit the keyboard right here with more dedication.

A few l’il tipsies for ya:

  • Prepare for your work time, stock up on supplies so you can be focused on your work, there’s nothing worse than hunger rumblings to have you wandering off into the kitchen for a “quick snack” and then being distracted for hours with some random other stuff
  • Structure your time, have a list of goals, targets or specific tasks that you need to achieve or get done before you take a break… which leads me to..
  • Budget your time and allow for breaks, sufficient enough to replenish your brainpower and have you thinking straight and on track.
  • Do adequate research and collaboration before starting to document your work/articles/pages… you need to have all your facts at hand when composing any material, the moment you jet off into cyberspace you will find a heap of distractions just waiting to suck you in…

Now that’s just a few things that I do to make my time working more inline with actual income producing activities…

But my most important thing to add is.. the written word. Be prepared to hold yourself accountable for your actions or lack thereof. So if you write down your goals, task, and objectives for the day, you will know that you have them right there to be done and can only cross them off on completion.

This allows your mind to focus on small steps to completion and you can progress at your own rate, knowing exactly what you have to do in a pre-defined list. I know this works for me for sure, and was probably one of my biggest stumbling blocks early in my I.M. career, I just didn’t appreciate the value of goal setting and small steps like this….I can say without reservatin that most days I wouldn’t do even half of my planned activities without my list, with child in tow and the hustle and bustle of daily parenthood it would just be too easy to sit with baby all day and have fun… how easy it is to stop..lol..

Set goals, hold yourself accountable and be responsible for your success, or lack thereof..
