Ask Jamie: Think Like A Marketer

By Jamie Holt | July 14, 2008 .

Just a quick question today:

Question comes from inside of wealthy affiliate and is a topic I think is often overlooked when looking into new campaigns:

Jamie, I have a little trouble thinking like a marketer, I browse the forums and find issues in my potential niche’s..but I struggle to really grasp concepts and how to move the process along… how to think like a super affiliate?….  ;-(

Hey dude, great question…

Let me ask you… do you keep a notepad by your bed at night?… if not then do this for a week….

Every morning when you wake up… think about yesterday’s IM activites, and write down any potential niche’s as possible that you stumbled across..

The art is in the execution, not the whole plan.. you’d be surprised at the make money online offers I have seen launch and be a success when they were crap, why?… the execution.

The same goes for niche finding, it doesn’t matter how you do it, just make sure you execute it properly..and that means getting it down on paper WHENEVER possible. If you see something down the store…think more deeply about it and write it down. This trains your mind to be accepting of ravenous idea’s..

Why do you think 13 year old kids jump online and make a killing?…. because the wide eyed innocence of a child stops them from holding themselves back, that’s what you need to do. When doing niche research, I never let anything go by, any question becomes a whole niche, any minor query is a sub-niche and I’m like a kid in a candy store.

Start today..grab a notebook and just start taking notes… train your mind to see the things that you need to see, they are all around you..

But on the flipside of this, you have to cross this with thinking like the consumer, what they want.. their needs, desires, thoughts feelings…

It is really important that along with seeing the potential and training your mind to spot the opportunities, you recognise the time to put yourself into the consumers shoes.

Try what I stated above, but remember to include the potential market in all your thoughts… don’t see a way to make a commission, see a way to help and serve the market… the more you serve the market, the better it will be to you and reward you for your service.
